Test drove a 328i Sport package (Question)

Hello guys, I test drove a 2013 328 and I liked it, but I have a question for you owners.

While driving the car at certain times it would feed as if it was in to low of a gear. Slight vibration like if I try to put my s2000 in to high of a hear at to low of a speed.

Is there a solution for this? Or is it something bmw owners need to get use to?

I mentioned it to the salesman on the test drive. His response was, oh I dont feel it, I think the gear ratios are great lol

Manual or Auto? And which mode were you in? Eco-Pro mode is great for saving gas, but can feel a bit laggy. You might try switch the car into sport mode.

In ECO pro mode, light application of throttle will keep the car in a high gear, creating the sensation you mentioned. The 2.0 has decent torque down low in the rev range so it still can move the car well enough. Comfort responds better to more throttle input. Putting the car in sport mode removes this behavior all together as I have found it spends most of its time at or above 2k rpm.

Totally normal, and just the way the engineer/trans are designed to work with each other.

Okay, yea I am not sure what mode it was in. I believe there is Sport Comfort and Eco? Does the have the high gear feeling in comfort mode?

If it felt like you were in 'too low of a gear' I bet you were in Sport mode. It is usually two gears lower than normal in Sport mode.

My 5 series does what you said when I have the sports mode off. The sales person is so used to test driving the cars that it feels normal to him.

How can I get my bmw dealer to go lower on the lease?

He gave me the price of 8100 down and 345/month for the 335xi with auto high beams and paddle shifter (the only 2 options I want) I told him if he can do 8000 and 320 a month with tax then I would be in to order the car.

I would imagine that you'll have to deal with the length of the lease from that point.

Holy god. 8100 down? Visit the Ask A Dealer section of the forum and get informed on how leasing works. Why in the world would you give them so much up front!!

That sounds like a lot to put down on a lease. After the lease term you are out that money. You are better off putting down Multiple Security Deposits to lower your money factor. Do some research on this option. By the way paddle shift is only available on the Sport Line option.

Go to the Ask A Dealer forum on this site for more info on negotiating.

(Edit-Sorry, I missed that you are looking at a Sport Line already.)

Yes, please, go to the ask a dealer forum and learn how leasing works... then go to www.bmwconfig.com, configure the car EXACTLY how you want it, and, since the money factor and residual are common knowledge, you can easily figure out how much you "should" pay based on how close to invoice your dealer is willing to get.

Also, multiple security deposits make sense. "Money down" on a lease does not. Google cap cost reduction vehicle totaled and educate yourself.

Looks like bmwconfig.com is down at the moment, you should try it again later, it's a great way to price a vehicle out.
