e39 530d suspension advice, ex msport suspension owner
Hi All
I used to have a e39 with msport suspension, loved the handling etc have now gotten a 530d e39. it has unfortunately standard suspension. im not after a crazy drop. just similiar to standard bmw sport suspension which i think is 25mm or such. i looked at the bilstein kits, theres the b16 coilovers which is way overkill and probably not suitable for everyday road use. there's the b12 bilstein kit, then there's also a b10 bilstein kit. the b10 appears to have more of a drop where the b12 seams closer to factor msport suspension. if i change to this and then also change the front and rear sway/roll bars to be the same as with the msport i should be good right ? any other suggestions ? i think i can get koni aswell and also h&r springs ? which combo is best? thanks in advance |

Hi,
Theres perhaps thousands of suspension threads all to do with what's possible and available with feedback on which products to go with for these cars. There is no one 'best' setup as your personal choice and opinion for the same products might be different to others. Coilovers can and do work for everyday use, however to get the really good ride quality from this route you need to look at the mid to high end choices as some owners will swear blind that they're better than oem suspension! I run H&R all round on my Touring for instance, using standard shock absorbers and I'm very happy with the ride quality. Have a read around and make a shortlist to evaluate what you'd like to ultimately go with Cheers, Dennis! |

Hi I'm new to the forum, I have an E39 535i M tech on 18" M5 rims, just replaced the original msport suspenison with Bilstein B8's and Eibach prokit as the original shocks were getting as bit crashy, replaced these with the B8's first and found that with the original springs everything was out of sync, very hard and resonated badly. Then added the Eibach prokit springs, the car is now very firm but progressive and after a few weeks is bedding in nicely - it handled well before on the standard set up but is sensational now but not what you'd call limousine type comfort.
