Nothing wrong with trying to get one for less money.
How much is it at a dealer? It might be good to know first, as a reference point to compare to, to see the possible savings. ~

Thanks all for your input. The car is a 98, but only has around 53,200 miles....It should be okay for now..........BTW.......just kidding about implying that I'm living the fast life here in vegas, I'm a married man with two kids, who has been to the vegas strip about three times a year since moving here from NY in 98...................Be safe!...................................

With these pricing and brand choices, which looks like the best choice as a price/performance/sleep-worryless-at-night to you?

Check the price for Mail Order at Circle BMW, or Pasific BMW, or Carvier(SP???), and you'd get the best prices of all your list.
Then do what 540M said. Add few oil filters, air filters, etc, and you got yourself a good deal. Fastest to answer the phone is Circle BMW, but Pasific will give you a little more discount. ~

Actually, I just checked something for you.
I think the list price at the dealer is $23, not $26. Even if its $26. Expect to pay about $18.20 at circle bmw. Expect to pay $16.38 at Pacific bmw. I paid $14.56 for mine (Pacific). The local dealer will sell me at 15% discount, which is $19.55 with my BMWCCA membership card. And you get a real OEM, not a 'replacement' OEM. Hope this info will be useful to you in your future parts purchases. ~

speaking of fuel filters, I haven't been able to find a DIY on it! I've read that it's a "no brainer" but the idea of messing around with something extremely flamible worries me...somewhat.
So are there any DIY or tips (besides not smoking while changing the fuel filter) before I burn down my garage? |

i bought the bosch filter from bmaparts.com for 19 dollars. I bought a lot of other stuff at the same time and got free shipping.
The fuel filter is easy to change out. You will have gas pouring out of the line until the line is empty so make sure you get a cup or something the size of a quart of oil to catch the fuel. Remove the plastic panel directly under the driver seat/pedals to see the big silver canister called teh fuel filter... All you need is a 10mm socket and a flat head screw driver (and a cup!) I replaced my original one at 92k miles and it was so blocked i could not blow through it. I could easily blow through the new filter. It made the car run much better with better throttle response. |

"OEM" refers to the manufacturer that made the part originally fitted on the automobile. The dealer may be selling one made by a manufacturer different than the one who made the original one. BMW, like any other wholesaler, may find a cheaper source for replacement parts (which hopefully is making parts up to BMW's "high standards"). Therefore, just because the dealer is selling it does not mean it is OEM.
