Bmw 318i e46 wont start help please

Hi everyone. iv recently purchased a BMW 318i E46 5 door. after a few weeks of driving it i noticed that it was leaking oil from the oil fillter housing, so i replaced the gasket and the oil filter etc... as you all probably know to get down to the gasket you have to remove the altinator/air filter atc. iv put all the parts back in reverse order and now the car wont start. the car has never had any starting problems before to my knowlage, only that some time the starter motor would stick on first turn but then it would be ok. any idea please people need it sorted asap thanks

Is the engine cranking over ? At normal speed ? When you turn the key to Position 2, do you hear the "whirring" noise of the fuel pump priming the system ?
Have you read the E46 Wiki ?

no engine wont crank over, all that happens is i turn the key and it does a clicking sound. all electricals seam really slow and light dim!no i havent yet.

Sounds like it could be as simple as a dead battery

Thats exactly what i thought but why would it just go like that after disconecting altinator and battery

Batteries often die with little or no warning....happens all the time.

Try to jump the battery or replace it, then you will know if your alternator drained it.

Thanks everyone for replying. i shall try and put some leads or a replacment battery in her tomorrow and let you know how it goes. once again thanks

If not battery, then next consider a starter problem.

Which makes me think, that should actually check how old is my battery...
lots of things are still according how previous owner put them so i don't know for sure myself.

Put the battery on charge this morning and the car just started up. thanks for all your help lads.

Pictures of your car can be added in "My Garage", or optionally going into your profile (click your name) and then add album.
