intermitten failsafe mode

Hi everyone,

I'm new to bimmerfest and thought I'd give it a try concerning my 2002 325i with 108k.

I get a failsafe light and a trans lock up. This occurs intermittenly and only at idle with the car in drive. If I shift to neutral when I come to a stop the failsafe will never come on and that's the way I've been driving it for a few months now.

Sometimes the failsafe is resettable by turning the key off and then on again, and sometimes not. If the key doesn't work I have to use my computer program to clear the codes and reset.

The car shifts perfectly and I have spent quite a bit of labor and money chasing this problem. Repairs I've tried include:

Torque converter, wiring harness (due to bad temp sensor) pulse generator and output sensors. Yes lot's of work.

At this point I would like to bypass the failsafe lock up if that is possible and drive the car until it dies like in the old days.

Is there anyone out there that might be able to advise me on bypassing or interrupting the failsafe system?
