Burning oil?
Anyone in the forum experiencing the X6 burning synthetic?
Within the past 8k mile our X6 50i has evaporated at least 3 quarts of synthetic? if this is common please let us know... Thank you, Solu- Racing... |

I had to add one quart over 33,000 miles of driving (between oil changes). It was around 18k miles or so.
I have heard that having to add one quart during the first 7500 miles is not uncommon. Or even 1 quart every 5-10k miles. 3 quarts within 8k miles seems rediculous. I would suspect rings, or poor engine build quality. The darn thing only holds about 8 quarts of oil. And you lost about 40% of the oil within 8k miles. I don't think an M3 is that bad.

That is quite excessive oil burning unless you're driving her pretty hard. My 335i burned oil, but on the southern roads we have the opportunity to open the cars up quite a bit. Ya know blow off the dust>

My car was doing the same thing.. I took it in and now they are trying to charge me over 6k to fix it. They said it was the turbos.

I burn a quart every 4500-5000 miles which is normal. Three quarts in 8000 miles seems a bit much. Get it checked out. Good luck.

Heads up
My 2010 hybrid needed feeding after 8,000 new. then it settled down. The new 12 x6 550 needed feeding at the same time. HAve put another 2,000 miles on it over the holidays and it is sitting at just 1/4 below full....The last 2,000 was on hwy travel and a lot of open speed...8,000 and that muchoil does seem wrong. If they are charging 6,000.00 for correction is that not covered under your waranty? Are they giving you a hard time about covering it? We should all take note of this! |

My X6 is a 2012 5.0 with only about 11500 miles. This year i put on about 7500 miles from the last oil change and I poured in 1 quart of oil (BMW High Performance Synthetic). 3 Quarts seems a bit too much to burn... U should get that checked out.
