HOW TO IMPROVE MPGs, GAS MILEAGE?

Hi,

When I first got my car I was averaging about 17Mpg. Now my driving habbits haven't really changed, but I average around 14.7Mpg in my car, what can I do mechanically to improve this?

I have:
1. Set correct tire pressure as in the door
2. Chevron Techron fuel cleaner
3. Replaced spark plugs
4. Replaced engine air filter

Anything else I can do?

I have gotten recommendations for:
1. Fuel filter? Has anyone done this and experienced a bump in Mpg? When is it recommended to be replaced on the 745? I am at 98000 miles.

Anything else? How many MPGs increase have you gotten with any other maintenance? The car is not throwing any codes for O2 sensor or anything, I just want to improve it back to 17Mpg.

Thanks in advance,

Beejohn

You know funny thing is a couple buddys &
I were talking about this on Monday , while
we were at the shop . 1 suggested trying the
E3 spark plugs . Actually several guys
chimed in & swear by them . Josh gave us
his experience with the before & after
putting them in his car , he claims before
he put them in he had to stop for gas
while driving to Frisco & fill up & after he
put them in he made it there with gas to
spare .

Just for your info my buddy josh has been
Working in Frisco for the past few months , he he drives back home down here on the weekends . Then back up there for work
on Monday .

Take it out for long drives at 55MPH downhill on the interstate and have it towed back home.

The E3 plugs are pretty much garbage/snake oil plugs just like the pulsestars and such. The best thing to do is stick with good plugs like the NGK Iridium's or the factory bosch ones. NGK Iridiums are the only plug that I know of that can last 105K+ miles without a hiccup that auto makers (Honda, Toyota, etc) support.

To the OP, right now most gas stations are switching to winter-blends and those get a little less MPG as there are chemicals to help keep moisture out, or the ethanol in the gas is absrobing more water as well. Either way it kinda is a let down and the fuels are a good chunk of loosing MPG.

Also with it being a tad cooler out, if you are taking shorter trips your tires don't have a chance to really warm up and grip properly, and when the tires aren't gripping well then you don't get optimal MPG.

2nd. Cooler air outside means denser air. More air going into the engine means more fuel used!

3rd. Driving styles make a HUGE difference! Coast to red-lights and don't floor it!
