Reverse light problem!

Hey Bimmerfest! New to the BMW world and first post on Bimmerfest

Ok I have a problem. Currently in the process of getting my car ready for inspection. The last thing on my list to fix is my reverse lights.

Now I've searched every possible solution to this and still can't seem to fix it.

I've tried...I've checked the #10 fuse, checked for broken wires, checked for power in the wires, replaced my reverse switch everything!

Now with the reverse switch out of the transmission but still connected to the wires it works flawlessly...I manually press the switch and the reverse lights switch on and off.

It's as if nothing in the transmission is making contact with the switch.

Anybody have any ideas? I am desperate!

Is this a manual or automatic transmission?
Either way it sounds like some internal actuating lever has broken off.

You could try to mount a simple press-button switch somewhere on top of the transmission that gets pressed in by the gear lever moving into reverse....easier than removing and opening up a transmission.

They have lots of experts there as regards the European/ Aus/ SA models are concerned

Is the car auto? If so, manual convert it and problem solved

Which gearbox - they used lots.

It must be a stick since he said with the switch removed from the transmission he can push it and it works. The automatics reverse switch is in the gear selector.
