Car Wont Start - No Turn

Have a 2000 328i, 170K miles doing the weirdest thing. When I try to crank it, it does absolutely nothing, wont turn or try to turn. Did it again like 2 times and then it cranks. After a few months of this, it will not crank at all. got a new battery that was low. It is acting the same way. Cranks when it wants to. Sometimes it does, cranks right up. Sometimes i turn it and nothing, no turn or no nothing. Everything comes on such as the inside lights, radio, etc. Has anyone else experienced this? I have brought a used alternator, new battery.

How old is your key? Do your doors unlock fine with the remote on the key? Do you have a spare set?

I have had the same key since I got the car six years ago.

Suspect a starter motor that is on its way to fail.

I'm with Goforthfast, sounds like a starter problem
Try tapping the metal part of the key against a hard surface, if it starts it's the key. If not then starter or even ignition switch
