6 Series X Drive Torque Vector
Newbie here. I did use the search function for this forum but could not find the answer. I wonder whether the 6 series X drive cars have a torque vectoring capability in the rear diff ? I had heard that some BMW's have it and I know Audis with the sport differential have this capability. Would appreciate any info from the experienced BMW owners here.

Welcome to Bimmerfest! Are you looking at a 6 series coupe, convertible or gran coupe?
From BMWUSA.com - Unlike other all-wheel drive systems, we've built xDrive, BMW's intelligent all-wheel drive system with rear-wheel bias for surefooted grip on slick or uneven roads, without sacrificing the feel of rear-wheel drive. It smartly sends power to the wheel or wheels with the surest footing-and it does so in milliseconds. That means under normal conditions, drive forces are spread out with a rear-wheel bias. But the moment the system senses excessive wheel slip, it subtly shifts torque to meet the changing conditions, offering maximum available traction and superior handling on all surfaces-despite the weather conditions. |

Looking at the 650 Xdrive Gran Coupe - could not find anything that confirms if they have torque vectoring for the rear wheels.
The quote you put in the post suggests a front and back torque transfer as the conditions require. But I wonder whether there is left and right torque transfer during cornering where the outside rear wheel is rotated faster than the inside rear wheel - that is what the Audi Sport Diff does as well as Acura's SH AWD and I know it was being talked about for some BMW's but I cannot seem to confirm that it is in the 650 X drive GC .... |

I'm 99% sure xDrive is open diffs but the system uses the brake on the slipping wheel to transfer torque to the other wheel. I would guess that is how the Acura system works as well, Audi has a much more complex diff system.

Hey Tim thanks. I found what I was looking for - it is called Dynamic Performance Control in BMW and it is on the X6 5.0. It transfers power laterally between the two rear wheels when cornering and is highlighted as a feature on the BMWUSA website for the X6. I guess it is not available on the 650 X drive GC cos I did not see this feature highlighted at all on the 650 X Drive GC pages of the website ?

That is interesting, I had not heard of that before. As I mentioned I'm fairly sure most xDrive vehicles have open differentials. I found this on BMW.com -
