@gandalf, it wasn't just a comparison with the handling of my Cooper S. The 328i simply didn't feel like it had a powerful enough engine for such a large car. Yes, I've learnt to appreciate it, especially on highways.
BUT, driving the 335i was SO amazing that it confirmed my concerns were not unfounded at all. That's the sort of power I was expecting.

Interesting...engine makes that much difference, especially to the "boaty" ride...maybe it's also the tires (wider and 18"). I have not tried the F30 335i, but I wasn't particularly blown away by the E90 335i, maybe just because I don't care too much for power.
I also find it weird that the 335i's are hard to find and thus hard to get a good deal on...for those that care about resale value, those will probably hold up better.

But then how did you live with your MINI? The MINI wasn't a fast car. If having more power and go fast is your thing.

Yup, your post just made this thread the 2nd most replied to here.
You are feeding me? I don't even care about this any more. And you don't have anything useful to add sir. It's a done deal what I did. Admitted my mistake. Dealing with it now.

328i2013,
I just built a loaded, okay really loaded, Boxter S and the price was $105,565. Well, I guess a base Boxster is available for only $49,500. I bet if you spend closer to $100k, you'll like your Boxster better than a $50k Boxster and history won't repeat itself.

Time to fess up, why did you drive a MINI? ![]() A $100k Boxster can in fact have a lot more performance capabilities than a $50k Boxster. Last edited by dtc100; 11-02-2012 at 07:58 PM. |

I think BJ, or someone else already gave my rationale for driving a Mini. Something to do with girls or cougars or soccer moms...can't recall.

On a very different note, somehow I did think of you and your family when Sandy hit. Hope all is well. Next time I hear someone upstate complain about the snow we get, I'll slap them since what we experience isn't worthy of even mentioning compared to what the coast is experiencing...Bloomberg was right to succumb to pressure and cancel the marathon so as not to take resources away from the recovery efforts. Yes, it was a very expensive decision but money can be made up - lost lives can't.

We're a lot more fortunate than many others in that we have a working gas fireplace, hot water, and gas cooktop, but we're at 96 hours and 15 minutes without electricity and the wife and kids are getting a bit fatigued of the darkness. Stay safe this winter. BJ

Old 09-06-2007, 07:41 PM boltjames Banned Location: USA Kill Stories Re-opened (Disclaimer: this thread is a satirical flamefest) (I am getting so much attention and status from my E93 that its hard to keep track of all of it. I know that the enthusiasts remember their favorite kills on the road, so I thought it would be good to post my favorite status kills so I don't forget them as new ones occur.) So, this morning, I pull up to a Dunkin' Donuts drivethru window and the register girl takes my money and says "nice car". I say "Thanks. What's with your teeth?" She gives me back the change, there's a penny in my hand so I drop the coins on the ground. She closes the window and I start to pull away. As I flick my straw wrapper to the asphalt, I see the driver behind me, in an E46 Sedan, staring at my car. Nice kill. Then, this afternoon, I pull up to a McDonald's drivethru window and the guy bagging my food says "wow, nice car". I say "Thanks. You know, I worked at Burger King when I was your age, but today it's much harder to get a good job and make enough to afford a car like this." Kid forgets to put my daughter's sweet and sour sauce in the bag, but I check before I pull away, knock on the glass window, and ask the manager to give me my sauce and school the kid for messing up my order. Another kill. Yesterday afternoon, I'm pulling up to Lenscrafters in the local mall parking lot as I need to get a new pair of $200 RayBan's that lack polarization so I can see my awesome Sirius/iPod audio display. I'm looking for an empty place to park so jealous people can't scratch my car and there's a spot way over there where I can go nose to nose with a 528i. No sooner am I putting the windows up than the owner of the 5 comes out. It's a 50 something woman. She looks straight at me, says "nice car" and I respond "Your's too. Not sporty, but I love the color." We give each other a knowing "we're better than everyone else" glance and I go in to get my shades. Killed. Wednesday afternoon, I'm alone for lunch as my co-workers no longer want to go to lunch with me due to jealousy (as I predicted). I'm driving top down in the sun and am looking for something to do, so I decide to buzz the local Acura dealership, the one that had been my close companion for the last 10 years. Driving around the new car inventory, there are like 5 or 6 people looking at various cars to buy and I drive past them extremely slowly, staring at them as I go by. The salesmen are getting upset because their potential customers aren't focused on Acura product. The head of the service department sees me drive by and waves to me; his name is Mitch and we've been good aquaintences since 1997. I look at him, don't change my facial expression, and drive off. Ouch-kill. BJ
