Extended Warranty
After considerable reading on the subject on this forum, I have decided not to get an extended warranty for my 2008 535i Sport whose factory warranty ends on 10/27. I bought the car at 31,000 miles and now it has 48,600. It has been tremendous so far (knocking on wood). It seems the problem E60's show up early and stay late.
Based on my previous E39's mechanical performance (I know 2 different animals of electrical sophistication...) I am going forward without it.

I think it depends on the individual car. My car had multiple HPFP failures, one new bank of fuel injectors and a carbon cleaning during the warranty period. For my peace of mind I bought extended warranty. Thus far the CEL has been on for three times in the 5 months the car has been out of warranty. The first time it took two weeks to diagnose the problem - engine running lean - finally fixed by replacing a seal. The second time it was the DTML pump and a low fuel pressure sensor that needed to get replaced. Right now they are still diagnosing the problem and will also replace the leaking windshield washer fluid reservoir and fix the broken PDC. I guess I am going to be getting my money's worth out of the warranty since I am only at 57K miles.
