Replacing stock tweeter with 1" polk

New to forum. Just picked up an 04 645ci last week.
Left tweeter is blown. Can i replace it with a 1" POLK like this?:

http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Pol...=1077068&s=car

I read somewhere that the stock is 0.75". Can anybody confirm?

thx

I put those exact speakers in to replace the factory tweeters and they fit perfect. You have to pretty much rip out the entire factory one but they are crap anyway. When I put mine in I stuck it in exactly how that picture looks, with the small Polk Grill attached and they wedged in very nicely. That speaker going out did you a favor.

Read the thread linked below, roll down to post #10 (the posts are numbered on the right), in that you will see where I link to a location that gives you a PDF with instructions on how to replace the tweeters.

One thing you don't have to do if you don't want to is change the crossovers. Others have simply taken out the corner tweeter holder and left the door panel on. Simply cut the wires and attach your new speakers.

Yeah, you guys inspired me to do both the Polk Tweeters and replace the center channel with the Focal. I'll let you guys know how it goes, including trying to replace the tweeters without taking off the door panel.

Next project might be adding a sub, but we'll see might not have enough room for it. just swapped out the Run-flats so I have a full spare in the trunk. we'll see how it goes.

You only have to pull the door panels if you want to change out the crossover. Plenty have just done the tweeters alone and been happy. So it should be pretty easy.

so i managed to get the tweeter out without removing the door panel but the speaker in the door panel is also distorting. anyone replaced those with aftermarket? suggestions? also, there seems to be no sound coming from the passenger side tweeter and door panel speaker...could it be an amp issue?

Yes, it could be amp. Matter of fact, if it isn't speakers, that is the next most likely cuprit.

Replacing the door speakers are a little tougher, the speakers themselves are mounted to the door panel. I know it has been done and do not know the process, but I have heard it is not straight forward remove a couple of screws and replace.

I actually replaced all 4 of my mids with the Kicker KS40 4" Coaxial 2-Way Speaker (pair) 11KS40. They come in a pair and they also have a really nice tweeter to add to the stock ones! I was viewing this link and i noticed that the polk audio tweeters could replace the stock tweeters. Great idea and i hope they go nicely. I've been using the kickers with stock and it sound fantastic, don't get me wrong but i really want the best! if it's amped too high, you get a crackly noise mixed in there. sounds better when not turned up too awfully loud and that just isn't cutting it any longer! been like that for about 6 months and it's time to take that extra step

also, the 2 kickers in the door would not let the stock mounts attach but they come with some sick looking ones to go over them. had them installed from a professional and they kept original wires and they are amped from stock. sounds great

next to replace the subs under the seats. got 2 alpines 12" type rs in the back but you still hear the old subs under the seats. good bass from alpines but quality of sound is still affected due to stock subs. want to try the tweeters first, maybe it will drown out the sound of cheap materials those stock subs are made from..

need i also add that you hear no rattles in the truck regardless of how much bass there is! i took the ski thing out of the center arm rest in back and it makes an insulated sounding bass experience that is amazingly resonating ! !
