Acrylic windscreen
Hello all; wondering if any has purchased acrylic wind screen from Bavarian motorworks. The mesh screens don't really do the job on long drives and when the weather is cool. They are running a sale this month. ($220)
Thanks |

I bought the acrylic windscreen soon after I got my car early last spring. I have no experience with the mesh; but I doubted it would be very effective. I have been pleased with the acrylic windscreen. It gets dusty, but is easy to clean. I also found that I could remove the center panel but leave the two little panels in place behind the seats and that still keeps most of the wind from blowing on the back of my neck. The only negative experience that I have had is one of the little panels behind the seat developed a rattle at colder temps. I fixed that by applying a small bit of tape to the edge to eliminate the play inside the frame of the rollover bar.

Thanks for the reply Tonywintn; I agree from personal experience, the mesh is ineffective. Also hard to see when backing up. Nice pic of your car. Getting ready to store mine as weather getting harsh.

I have an acrylic windscreen from windblox. I went for the acrylic for some of the same reasons, that it's clear so it doesn't impede vision, and its much more effective than mesh. I took a ride with another Z4 owner in my car club, and she has the dealer mesh windscreen, and I could feel how my windscreen blocks more wind.

Grilledcheese have you been happy with the windblox acrylic screen? The price is $88 at windblox.... For that price it's worth trying it. I have the factory mesh screen, it works ok, but I do still feel a slight draft.

Roadster Solutions also sells one. I have it. Easy to install, works well, looks factory OEM.

Bstanton, I just ordered the $88 windblox model with the rubber trim. Should be here in a couple days. I'm debating whether to mount it infront of the roll bar or behind since I use my storage between the seats. We'll see when it gets here. I'll let you know how it turns out since I'm always with the top down when able.

I too ordered a windblox. For the price I could not pass it up.

While I have the ///M version of the Z3, not the Z4, I have both acrylic and mesh. They both work equally well. I prefer the mesh as I can unzip it to fold it down on those very rare occassions the top has to be up to improve visibility. I have the smoke colored acrylic and it still creates visibilty issues with the top up.

Got my Winblox acrylic screen in. Nice. It's only maybe 60degs around here today with plenty of sunshine. Took the ole speed buggy out for a test ride. Again...NICE. Even with the wind gusts being felt by my follicle challenged scalp, the overall space was very comfortable. I especially liked not having my ears being blown out from behind when the screen wasn't there. Good investment.

Bstanton. Look closely at your bill when you receive the shipment. They slipped in an overcharge for the windscreen (+$10). I'm waiting on confirmation on the correction. Just wanted to give the heads up.

I purchased the Roadster Solutions wind screen. I looks like it came with the car. I too have a slight rattle in the roll bar screen. I solved it by cutting a small piece of rubber from and inner tube and pressed it into the space at the bottom of the panel in each roll bar. The fix is invisible and the rattle is gone. The only drawback is that when the top is up it is nearly impossible to store anything on the "shelf" without taking out the center piece, and that is not going to happen. No regrets and I like the appearance better than the Windblox.

I received the Windblox acrylic windscreen this week.. The weekend weather here in New England looks like no rain this weekend so I will try it out.. I was charged correctly, the $88 and the shipping charge only.. no additional $10 fee showed up on the packing invoice. I did not add any extras to the windblox, just the basic acrylic windscreen and the staps..

As an update, Tim from Windblox corrected the billing. He was pretty prompt in returning my email, etc. For the trouble, and since I got hit with sales tax due to him having a dealer here in MS, he's sending me at least the cleaning towels, etc. All fixed!!

I installed the Windblox today and went for a ride. It works so much better than the mesh. I recommend it if you're considering an acrylic wind blocker.

BStanton, now that you have the windblox installed, would you choose the clear or tinted version?

CTHuskyinMA, I went with the clear and for me personally, did the right call. When looking out the rearview mirrow, I am not looking fully thru the windscreen. I think if I were to have the tinted version I would be juggling my vision between the clear and tinted area. Granted, maybe I have my screen lower than others, but it is resting with the bottom right above my rear storage compartment. Just my couple pennies worth.

I have the windblox on my 03 Z4 and love it. With the clear straps it is almost invisible.

I went with the clear windblox and pleased that I did., I initially installed it so that the top of the windblox met the top odd the roll bar loops. When I closed the roof ( replacement roof) the windblox rubbed slightly against my roof. I lowered the windblox so that it now sits a smidge above my back deck. I do have it installed on the back side of the roll bar loops, but I may try installing it in the inside of the tool bar loops. I don't have storage in my back deck, it houses my subwoofer.
I think that the tinted would be to dark to look through with the roof up.
