Blackberry has only 4.8% of the market share now. Ouchie!

New smartphone sales numbers from research firm IDC show BlackBerry lagging far behind Android and Apple devices in global second-quarter sales.

Android and Apple dominate in smartphones, with 85% of the worldwide market combined in the quarter.

Blackberry devices, meanwhile, came a distant third with 4.8% of the market, compared to 11.5% a year earlier.

RIM once owned the smartphone market. Its BlackBerry products were used largely by businesses. It is hardly worth repeating the story of how RIM was late to the consumer market, where it has been pounded relentlessly by Apple and an army of Google Android phones from manufacturers as diverse as Taiwan's HTC, South Korea's Samsung and Motorola in the U.S. The pace at which the company fell apart once the process began was even more extraordinary than its rise. They're trying

It does look slick and the spec are nice. But don't we all get the feeling of a too little too late? Shame that they are going to go. I would't want to see them gone. I used to think that their way out would be to become an Android manufacturer or to add Android to their phone line. I know I would have seriously consider and prefer their Android phone over the likes of HTC and Samsung.

With literally every phone being a "world phone" these days, BB has little going for itself and consumers have left them in droves. So I'm confused why the keep doing the same thing over and over again. "Slickness" is not what has been lacking. They have made good looking phones the past years. However, they never change their main philosophy! Same OS, same form factor, same features. This phone is going to be just another BB that will not sell, because it is the same BB philosophy wrapped in a newer, shinier wrapper.

Unless they have something different up their sleeve I don't see how this will do any better than their previous models.

I miss my blackberry, but my galaxy is great too! This phone looks fantastic, I'd buy it!
