Lawnmower beer

Now that summer is nearly here and I've mowed our lawn at least three times I thought I would place my vote for the best lawnmower beer. That's the one you grab when you're hot and sweaty and just want something cold and fizzy. For me it's Stroh's Light. Cheap but satisfying. The first is gone in about five minutes.

to be honest, I grab a glass of water, or iced tea, or coconut water to rehydrate - then go wash up and if I'm super sweaty, change shirt - maybe even take a quick cool shower - then grab any beer I have on the patio - I'm loving almost anything from Grimm Brothers - but when hot, I love an ODell's Easy Street Wheat.

Shocktops; they're always on sale somewhere, and go down fast when I'm hot!

I go for Fat Tire. Lawnmower, couch, sporting event or even a happy hour. It's all the same to me.

having lived in Fort Collins, I'm not that huge a fan of Fat Tire - preferring the Odell offerings instead... have you tried Levity from ODell?

Fat tire's not a BAD beer at all - it's just less flavorful than some of the competition around here - and there is a LOT of competition..

My oldest daughter lives in Washington, and we go up there every summer. The craft beers in Washington are amazing, and every pub has their own special brews! It's not uncommon to enjoy $2 pints of local brews during happy hour!
If you like Porter, Deschuttes Brewery (out of Oregon) makes a "Black Butte Porter" which is very good, and readily available to those of us in California at most stores. There's also a small English brewery called Samuel Smiths who make an excellent Oatmeal Stout. Newcastle is a good every day brown ale, and Becks Dark is one of my favorite hot weather darks. A small Belgian brewery, Weistepheiner, (the oldest brewery in the world BTW), makes a real interesting dark malt liquor called "Korbinian". 13% alcohol if I remember correctly!

Having lived in CO for many years myself and enjoying Fat Tire since they started producing tasty beverages in the early 90s, it's always been a favorite of mine. The only thing better was walking from my condo down Main Street with my refil container to get some fresh Breck brews when they opened their doors in 90.

I can get more flavorful beers elsewhere. I can get more refreshing beers elsewhere. I can get higher alcohol or lower alcohol beers elsewhere. But I can't get that "taste" I've been enjoying for 20+ years anywhere else.

I also have a serious soft spot for Anchor Steam.

Haven't tried Levity from ODell but it will be on my list if I ever see it. Thanks for the tip!

Ahhh... you're one of the early adopters of FT!

I love most of Breck's stuff - Left Hand and Dillon Dam Brewery... Grimm Bros in Loveland is a solid relative new-comer as is Great Divide... got family coming back in again this weekend and I'm hoping we can hit a few breweries this weekend - last weekend was a real bust - only got a couple of pints in at Coopersmith's in Fort Collins - and I was on my own while the ladies were clothes shopping ... I had a conversation with the bartender about why I couldn't bring the ladies in - my niece is newly recovering alcoholic and I think she is still struggling - so the bar-keep gave me one of my pints for free! You can't complain about a gratis pint of Sigda's Green Chile !

I have a glass of Merlot whilst I monitor the lawn service cut the lawn. One musn't be too trusting of the help.

In my youth, when I did the sweaty thing myself, I had two requirements. Beer. Cold. What its name was, I neither cared, nor remember.

I am sure it was good.

Actually my wife cuts, while I trim! (The mower is self-propelled, so she's good.)

What he said. ...and +1 to wine over beer any day!!

I used to love mowing the lawn. I just don't have enough time to do it anymore (Florida summer=weekly grass cutting). Would rather enjoy that time w my family. Hiring a lawn care service has improved our lives tremendously.
