Mongo has arrived!

Sorry, but that's the name Mrs D gave to our new X5M. I took some pics this morning before it heads off on its first day of carrying Mrs D on her Saturday errands. The specs for the X5M are linked in my signature.

Carbon Black looks awesome at night. I wish BMW would put the LED lights on the regular X5s...

Congrats on the car again!

There's a long list of people hoping to find shelter at our place when the zombies attack. I can send you an application form.

The wider 343M wheels for the 6er are closer in offset and width than the M5's, but the X5M has different bore sizes front & rear, so I'm finding the 20" wheel selection is very limited. The X5M comes with Summer tires installed. Since I want to use the truck this Winter, I don't have time to have custom wheels built, so I put in an order with TireRack this morning for a set of O.Z. Superturismo Dakar in Matte Graphite Silver with Continental DWS tires. I will weigh both sets of wheels when the new ones arrive next week, but it looks like I'll trim about 60lbs of unsprung wieght. That should be good for an mpg - maybe two.

I have a rental QX56 this week. Now I know what your fuel bills for mongo are going to be like. Hoo boy, thirsty! Getting about 14 in mixed driving. Get those lighter wheels STAT! Lol.

We did a multi-stop shopping trip today and averaged about 14mpgs which is what our GL450 did under similiar conditions. When I get back to the regular commute, I bet it will be around 17mpgs, which is only 4 less than the 550.

Looks great and love the color! I don't live too far into the sticks so I'll be using the Costco stronghold as a fall back plan.

Costco's are nice sturdy buildings with a limited number of entrances to defend and plenty off food and water. You shouldn't have a problem plowing through the sea of zombies in the X5M, but no joy riding, you need to get to the Costco before the barricades go up.

Glad to see we think alike. Costco is definitely far superior than many other "dooms day prepper" solutions. As for joy riding; very true. I also want to get to Costco before I run out of fuel at 14 MPG...thankfully the X5M has ample cargo space for my fuel jugs; not to mention my firepower and ammunition supply.
