Thinking of buying a 323i with 210k miles

i seen a 2000 bmw 323i with 220k miles they guy is willing to give it to me for $850. It needs motor mounts and some cosmetic work. This would be my first bmw so I don't know that much about them. Do you think I should buy it?

I would probably pass. The car is only worth about $1500 on kbb depending on the extent of cosmetic damage. But the way I price cars is book value minus deferred maintenance. Not stuff like oil changes and spark plugs etc, but stuff like motor mounts, suspension and what not. If you do your own work and are in love with the car you could get a pre purchase inspection, but if there are any issues which is likely it will quickly surpass the cars value.

You're going to learn no matter which car you pick for a first. If you like his car, I'd say go ahead and get it. Your downside potential at this point in your life is limited.
Be aware that this car could cost you much more as any older car can. But especially a BMW. Helps gobs if you could do your own work, or want to learn, or have a friend who can guide you.
