Is BMW out of their f$%^ing minds? Look at this quote..

So I get delivery of my 06 e66.. I take it for a ride and feels a thump coming from front left tire and i experience an atrocious kick from the transmissions that felt like a mack truck slammed into me from the rear at 80mph which is the followed by a check engine light and a transmission warning fault on the nav screen .. So naturally I start sweating and park the car. I set up an appointment at the dealer and bring it in for a full MPI and this is what they tell me is needed along with prices which I assume includes part and labor :

Oil Pressure Switch $185.00
Alternator Bracket $1886.00
Guibo Mount $1076.00
Mechatronic sleeve $1002
Rear Passenger Brake Sensor $120.00
Tie Rods $633.00
Wheel Alignment $299.00
LCM Module $800.00 (apparantly this module has a different VIN# then the rest of the modules and the vehicle cannot be programmed/updated without all modules having the same vin# and BMWNA registering the module properly. Remember NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE MODULE IT HAS A DIFFERENT VIN NUMBER OR SOMETHING)


Now I ask you .... Is it possible ? Is this really what BMW has become now? Is this is what I can expect upon my return back to the company I once admired and dreamt about owning as a young boy? If so I can truthfully say that my heart has been shattered in disappointment and disbelief at what BMW has turned into ... Im very upset right now. This is not what a marvel of engineering prowess in the automotive business is supposed to treat its loyal customers. Im on my 4th BMW and although my first 3 were leases I never really paid any attention to the prices .. I am in total shock right now and disgusted in my experience thus far. And btw this 2013 528 they gave me as a loaner w this automatic on off engine option is garbage and with all due respect this car itself with 19000 miles on the clock just feels like a piece of crap ... BMW better start concentrating on QUALITY CONTROL AGAIN AND STOP WORRYING ABOUT MAKING !@ DIFFERENT TRUCKS AND WAGONS AND WHATEVER ELSE .. Im annoyed beyond comprehension and felt the need to vent to someone ... Im sorry guys . I apologize to you all in advance. I truly am sorry for my ramblings ...... #DISGUSTED

Take the car to an independent mechanic and be on your way. You should be able to save more than half on the bill if you do all these things.

Thats my next move. I was told by the tech that the car was in fantastic condition otherwise so at least I feel somewhat better . I just cant believe these prices.. Are these really what ppl who go to the stealers pay?

Of course it is. 180smth for a 6$ oil switch that you can take out and replace in 5-15 minutes depending on skill.. Thats priceless lol
(Ps i changed my ops in 10 minutes without removing the vacuum pump at all)

Don't feel bad....my local dealership told me, $210 for a battery, $75 to have the battery program, $295 to code the car, close to $300 for oil and filter change, $350 for a water pimp and some more **** that came up to $3300 for parts and labor. Took it to a independent shop, really cool guy and paid only 1800 for everything total and he got all my parts from the BMW dealership.

Thanks for all the relys guys .. You guys made me feel so much better stepping up in support of me .. I am truly great full . Let me give you guys an update as to what has happened in the time since my origninal post earlier today. So I contacted my cousin at the dealership who is a BMW Master Tech for 17 years and told him that the dealer where I purchased it from in Texas received a quote from a local BMW dealer for 3600$ and being that the dealer here in NY was at 5600$ I told him to go back and figure out a way to get that price down to 4000$ and call me back ... Well low and behold he calls me back and gives me a price of 3892$ plus tax . So I called the dealer in Texas and they agreed to sign off on the work . So I think I dodged a bullet this time around. Luckily everything else is mint and the brakes and tune up has already been done.. Lets hope nothing else pops up now. But I am forever thankful for all your rapid responses and help you have offered to me thus far. Your mental support does wonders you wouldnt believe ... This joint might be helping a little as well ... lololol Ill keep you guys posted and in mind Thanks again guys ..

it is still a lot money for job u want to be done. I would not pay more than 2000. I see there are so many things which do not make any sense when u change them

The rear passenger break sensor for $120..? Thats the only part I have changed out of that list and I bought it for $24 at Advanced Auto Parts and installed it myself in under 5 minutes...

They only do it to people who dont know any better. Still alot of money for mostly maintenance things.

Well ill tell you one thing : I will NOT be going to the stealer after this. It's being covered by the dealer I purchased it from so I got lucky but going forward I will seek outside help. I don't mean to sound cheap because I'm really not. I NEVER EVER cut corners on maint. Or repairs but I also refuse to get bent over and robbed without a gun . With that being said I can't begin to tell you guys how much stuff I am learning reading through threads on this forum. The knowledge and intelligence level here is AMAZING!!! A place where real people can come together from all over the world and help total strangers. Do you guys realize how rare that is in this world today? I'm 38 years old and I've watched this world change so much in the last 25 years and for the worse. Anyway let me shut up and thanks again. All I need now is someone that can code my front MMI for me to control the rear DVD so I can watch movies on the front screen and I'm set. Any of you gentleman in the NYC area have the ability to do this? I can probably do it myself but I'm kind if afraid as I've been told by BMW mechanics that you can burn out a module if not done properly

WOW thats crazy! You can change the VIN of the LCM by re-flashing it with WinKFP, and most likely with Tool32, I have done that with a few other modules successfully, should work with the LCM I have seen the option/job to change the VIN when looking for something else.

Just goes to show you can spend $30 on a lead from eBay and do more than the dealer can!

Man I don't even know what to say, I love my car but I'm seriously considering selling it next year but I don't know what I wanna replace it with

i have been thinking about selling my car for past 2 years. Every time when i about to sell it brakes down or i do not have money to buy something else in the same class. Once it is fixed it i want to drive it Some time I think maybe i should keep it just for fun and buy one more car. It is not worth of selling. Price is for 745i with 145k is a joke now days

C'mon guys lets be serious now.. My dad has a 2008 Mercedes Benz S550 and not only is the car a suitable replacement but it's WAY BETTER THEN OUR E66's TRUST ME I DRIVE IT ALL THE TIME. Had I been able to afford one. That's what I'd be driving

When I start getting Social Security checks in the mail and most of my hair has fallen out, I will consider getting an S550.
