2001 740 IL rear window frozen

The right rear window on my 2001 740 IL won't budge. It is stuck in the closed position. I am in the process of replacing the window regulator and per other threads have removed everything from the door. The cable on the regulator is wrapped around the sprocket at the top of the regulator (which isn't accessible with the window in the "UP" position.) I cut the cable to the regulator but the window still won't budge. Any idea on how I can free the cable from the socket?

I had a similar problem. Short answer - Take out the glass. Remove the regulator assembly. Ditch it. Get a replacement (I used s/hand). Reassemble. My G Q E38 is now left with all the windows down 1/2" to releave tension on the wires and pulleys.

Thank you so much for your help BMW Father Figure. I was able to remove the window by cutting the plastic lip that holds the window in place at the bottom of the window. It then dropped down into the body of the door and presto....out came the regulator. I can't thank you enough for helping me figure this out. You are awesome!!!

That's an EXCELLENT idea- although not always practical- I'll use this when I can! makes great sense too. Pity no updates have ever been made as far as I know. Someone was toying with the idea of machining pulleys some time ago, but I never heard of them being produced.
