MLee4984: 2013 E70 X5 3.5

Hi All,

Just wanted to start a journal of my ride... Placed an order for a 2013 AW/Cinn X5 3.5 a few weeks ago. Car won't arrive till mid November but the modding begin! I have the premium package with 19s... Not too content with those, I picked up a used set of OEM BMW Style 215s in 21" and boy were they curbed... With the assistance of Thomas Esposito from Espos Powdercoating, these bad boys will look brand spanking new!

Was never a fan of black wheels so Tom will be making these "Speedway Gray with Mirror Clear."

In addition, I'll be adding the OEM Fender Flares and OEM Black Kidneys.

Keep posted for the updated photos.
Mike

Just picked up my wheels today... Tom did an excellent job, to say the least.

Great color, I've never been a fan of black wheels myself, although many others love them.

I love those wheels!!! 215 style in black, just like the ones you bought. Did you get them on ebay? What did you pay? (And were they sold as used?)

Thanks, black reminds me of steel wheels and hub caps...

I bought them used from a local. They were curbed and rashed so I had to repair and refinish them. They look like the oem Ferric Gray now.

Sorry for the late post... I do have many photos of my ride but its your typical 2013 X5 35i Only modification I've done was tint the front side windows to match the rear factory tint

I'm doing the same, what percentage and color did you go with?

@35%. Not the best pictures but these were taken right after the tint was installed. I think it matches well with the rest of the tints.

Question

Beautiful wheels. Just wanted to get your opinion on your new 21" wheels as I also live in NYC and my new X5 will be arriving next week with 20" wheels. How do you find handling with the 21's vs the 19's? Do you experience scratches or any damage to the wheels from street parking?

Thanks,
Mike

I actually just picked up my car today and I didn't install my wheels yet so I don't have any opinions on it yet. If I have time tomorrow, I'll swap the anchors tomorrow.

I just installed tint on my driver and passenger fronts. Lumar 30% and 50% on the windshield. I'll have pictures up in the AM.

Mike

After you've had time to try out your 21's, I'd be interested to know your opinion on how it handles, particularly here in NY after a snowfall. I had a 2008 X5 with 18's so never drove with 20's or 21's. I'll have to see how my car will deal with the winter conditions. I may have to go with winter/cold weather tires but will wait to see what happens first.

I noticed you mentioned you are changing to OEM black kidney grilles. If you have the titanium kidney grilles and haven't bought the black kidneys yet, I'd be willing to do an even trade with you. My black kidneys for your titanium kidneys.

Updates! Picked up the car and headed to Shades of Gray in PA to get my front windows done in 30% along with front windshield in 50%. Pictures don't really do it's justice. Installed the fender flares as well. It was cake once you drill out the rivets. I repeat, DRILL, don't even bother hammering it out. Had my friend code my car as well. Auto open/close of mirrors and tail gate, DVD in motion and removed seat belt chime. I forgot to ask him to do the euro blinkers and digital speedometer, next time! On for the pix!

Nice! Gives the ride a more wider, muscular look.

Wondering if replacing the yellow sidemarkers is in your future. It would give it a nice clean look front, side and back.

Mike, your X5 looks great with the fender flares! I'd also like to code my car to auto open/close my mirrors and tailgate. Would it be possible to post instructions on how to do it? BTW, by any chance would you be looking to sell your titanium kidney grilles?

Thanks. Mike

Yes, in the near future! Spending too much at the moment on the car. I want to vinyl or plasti dip the window moldings too.

There are a lot of people on the forums that code for free and people who charge. Do a search for them. As far as the kidneys, I will keep them for now.

Hey Guys,

Just a brief update, Eibach lowering springs installed. Bad photos, I'll get better ones soon. Debadged all the badges too for a cleaner look. Painted front and rear reflectors AW... That's about it for mods now.
