not fun... the piston seals were the worst. I ended up using a brake spreader to get the piston back into the caliper. but its done. total time involving disassembly, cleaning, painting and rebuilding took about 4-5 hours total. I wasnt really rushing but I could have been faster haha now they will wait in the trunk till my new wheel bearings and bilstein's are ordered... lee sigh...

pic's: i little before and after action

hey guys, been a while since I posted anything, I've been on vacation and after that became unmotivated haha. anyways I did some work this weekend finally stripped and sand blasted the eibach sway bars so they will be going to get a fresh power coat this week and I placed an order at pelican parts for all my wheel bearings, waterpump, head bolt socket and fan removal tool, along with a grill insert for the m bumper. all said and done should see it the end of this week I hope. anyways here's a pic of the sway bars. have a good one!

Hubs and lsd!!!

update: got the LSD swapped in last night and my hub bearings on. the bearings were so shot on the front end they came off in two pieces... cleaned up the backing plates and the spindles I'll torque down the hub nuts tomorrow at a friends shop. read that they have to be torqued to 240 ft/lbs. thats beyond what I have an my shop. the last picture is just to show what they came in as and what they are now. I'm super proud of how far they have come! have a great day guys!

Great job! Consider painting your anti-rattle clips black, too, so they don't stand out on your brakes.

i thought about it but rejected the idea, I dont want it to look like I painted the calipers, or tried to black out everything, you know. going for a clean stock look, as much as possible anyways.

The thumbnail of those reinforcing pieces looked like handcuffs. I thought "what the crap has Josh done now?", then saw the text.

Interesting! I've never seen an electrode like that on any make spark plug. This and this are the two OEM NGK part numbers BMW recommends.
These engines seem to be particular about the spark plugs being run in them. I've even experienced a difference with the Bosch OEM recommended plugs compared to the NGK. With the Bosch I had a slight low RPM stumble and with the NGK I don't. Go figure......

hey, so I did a compression test just for the fun of it, here's what I got.
1. 179
2. 179
3. 179
4. 210
5. 210
6. 210

kind of interesting how close how it was grouped. but now I know where the head gasket failed.

I was getting scared because of rough idle, and then when it ran for a few seconds it was even worse, sounding like it was running on 4 cylinders. so I got in there and pulled the coils and wow.... in the spark plug holes there was water... like a alot of water, filled with water. (see pictures) so after vacuuming the water out I did the compression test and put in some new plugs to get me through to when I can get the car in to the back of the shop to do the head gasket. and boom! runs like a champ.

I had the engine cover off for a while and it rained on the car hard one day. I guess that's how the water got into the spark plug holes.

anyways here's some pictures
my buddy mat helping me with the compression test and me tightening everything back up.

Haha! A fellow tinkerer! I enjoy doing the same thing. Except, you could upgrade those rubber guide bushings to brass, like the ones that Turner has, for more consistent stopping power, hot or cold. Granted they need to be cleaned almost every 2 months for daily driving, but they are great.
