E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

1992 325i Parts Question

I just got a 1992 325ic and had a question about ordering parts for it.

I am interested in replacing the transmission and clutch (basic OEM, not interested in special upgrades) as well as changing some other parts.

Does anyone know if the 1992 has any difference in parts from earlier models? Is it basically the same as the earlier models? I've been looking online at pelican parts for the clutch kit, but can't find any full transmission kits.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is this a E30 or E36 bodystyle? If its an e30, I think bmw went to single mass clutch in 88'. Before that I do believe they used the dual mass flywheel which would have a different diameter clutch and different diaphram. You don't have to buy a "transmission kit" just the clutch set-- should include throwout bearing, pilot bearing, clutch plate, diaphram and clutch alignment tool.

So the car's an e30. It's actually difficult to find anythign on the e30 cabriolets sold in 1992 and 93. I'm guessing they're not different from their 91 counterpart, but you can never be too careful.

The reason I mention the tranny is because the 1st gear is wrecked, I start it from 2nd off the line, which actually works (in southern california w/o steep climbs). Basically the previous owner ran it like that for a while and has worn the clutch to prevent lugging off the line.

I'd prefer to replace both the clutch and transmission. I'm going to check Pick Your Part in Chula Vista later today, i'll be looking for an e30 manual transmission, hopefully 88 and newer for compatibility with the newer clutch style?

Stick with any parts for the 87-91 325 I/IS model (-93 for the convertible, although they don't usually mention the 92 and 93 models) if you are looking for replacement parts. Example: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...0%281987-91%29
