Comfort Access / soft close.... Now on recall list

BMW is recalling certain 2005-2007 7-Series sedans for a door latching problem. The recall covers a total of 7,485 vehicles in the United States.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the recall includes BMW 7-Series models equipped with both Comfort Access and Soft Close Automatic options and manufactured between August 23, 2004, and September 3, 2007. Due to a software glitch, the 7-Series' doors may appear to be closed but actually remain unlatched.

The NHTSA warns that the 7-Series' doors may unexpectedly open during normal driving conditions or when an occupant comes in contact with a door. The flaw could result in occupant ejection or the increased likelihood of injury in the event of a crash.

BMW will rectify the safety issue with updated software. BMW will begin the recall campaign sometime in November.

wow, glad I have ca but not soft close doors.

I have both features... makes you wonder if most companies thoroughly test their products before releasing them. Notice its the same with cellphones, they release em knowing there's a ton of software issues then you have to download endless updates.

cool, ive noticed problems with my soft close as well so maybe this will help.

I will take mine if they send me a letter,just to get new loner car for a few days

I had this issue the other day, actually.


After finishing a wash and vaccum, I took off for the road.

After driving for 10 seconds I got a door open warning, which confused me as all of my doors were closed, or so I thought.

My rear left door was actually still slightly open as I hadn't given it quite enough "umph" for it to soft-close, yet it was still in a semi-locked position, it was weird.

back in the day, when i was driving my 7 series,

the passenger door unlatched by itself and then the soft close door pulled it in.

dealer replaced the door latch without replicating the problem.

Just bought a used 750i. I have no idea on how the recall process works. So how do I do it? Is it free? And more importantly, how can I use this opportunity to get some 'free' updates/fixes from the dealership?

Until that recall is fully released and letters are sent out by BMW, i would in the meantime register @ http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...r/default.aspx

There you can see all recalls (if any) for your vehicle and other models and get access to owners manuals etc if they weren't included with your purchase. Then, next time you have some free time just call your local BMW dealership and speak with a Service Advisor to schedule an appt to get the recall work done.

I'm guessing those with an I-level of E065-07-09-800 or higher already have the software fix. Those with a lower integration level will get a complete software update.

INPA software is able to read your I-level.

I recieved my recall letter from BMW Canada today (Dec 6, 2012), titled "Recall Campaign No. 2012-352: Soft Close Automatic Door Function"
BMW NA will have a different title.

Just had mine in today for the soft close doors recall , and since my Comfort access never worked before , now they are fixing everything for the Bubble , ill take it as it was the only fault on my vehicle .

My car was at the dealer earlier this week to have some work done including this one and when I inquired about this one specifically, they informed me that because there was no official recall campaign from BMW NA on it that I'd be responsible for the cost to perform this programming, which took me by surprise. Thankfully, I was assured that when the recall does come out that I can then be reimbursed for my out-of-pocket expense.

I think they just knifed you , All my local buddies had that some for the bubble including me .

Excuse me, but what is the "Bubble" thingy?

Sorry , they had theirs done for the bubble = Free of charge .

I dont know why they told you that. Print this out and take it to them. Then again, I might go to another BMW shop cause I wouldn't trust them to ever work on my car after being lied to in my face.

Wait, you do have soft close doors right

Hahaha....I hear you man! I actually was out on a date with a new girl last week, and I opened the door for her and let her in. I then closed it with the soft close. She though it was still open, so she opened it up and slammed it shut!

Well, I contacted BMW Customer Relations and Services this morning and had my issue elevated to one of their Resolution Specialists. It turned out that my car wasn't on the "official" recall list because their records didn't show my car as having the Soft Close Automatic Doors, which it certainly did as part of the Convenience Package my car came with. So it looks like someone at BMW seriously dropped the ball on this one. They are now going to investigate this further and get back to me in a few days with an update. I won't be surprised is many more fellow 7ers start receiving this recall notice. Thanks for everyone's your help with this.

I also can't stand it when passengers slam the doors. This is up there with people that slam my trunk lid when there is a button right there to do this for them.
