windows8?
How do you turn off or shut down the window 8. Since there is no Start button on the left corner, I have a Dell 15R with a I7 processor and 8GB of DDR memory

I found it anyway, it's under settings. Just got the Dell today, so it takes a while to get used to, I guess.

Windows 8 'Pro' comes with the full version of Hyper-V. Since I use virtualization a lot, to me upgrading all my Win7 PCs and Laptops at home to Win 8 PRO was worth every penny.
I wish there was a way to disable Metro and put back the Start button. Sent from my Commodore 64 using a 300 baud Modem

So far I don't mind Windows8. Just one little extra step to click on desktop and then it's like any Windows OS except no Start button to click on.

Seriously, does Win 8 really do anything significantly better than 7 for the average home user who uses the folding laptop form factor? No interest in a tablet.
I think Win 7 is just fine for my laptops. I'll upgrade my XP trading system when Win 7 64 gets down to $40 on Ebay, about the time MS shuts off support for it. Win 7 should be supported for the next 10 years, probably. If I have to buy a new system, I figure I can clone a drive with Win 7, replace Win 8 and downgrade relatively painlessly, if Win 8 is too much of a PITA. But again, for the average home user with a typical set of MS, Apple and Google suites, does Win 8 bring anything to the table?

meh, the sample laptop i saw with win8 looked just different enough to be noticed (and aggrivating??) to the older users, but similar to smartphones, so it is looking at the younger demographic with this one.
the kicker to me, though, was the fact that unless your laptop is a touchscreen, you do not get the full 'benefit' of the sliding and touching the display like a larger smartphone app...  all of the previous softwars that i have would no longer be applicable, either, so i would need to go purchase the 'upgraded' software programs as well. so, yeah, i passed. as much as i will be using this thing i do not see the benefit of going the full upgrade. i will probably be relegated to the stone age now... df

Griffoun - what feature of 8 pro apart from RDP do you find compelling to get you to make this move?
also - what do you mean by "if you know the drill"?
