Brake change...light not resting
I change my brake pad and I have tried two different sensors and I can't get the light to rest...I have also tried going into the car settings and rest it there....still did not rest.....I have a 2004 745LI
Do anyone have any idea what should I try next? Sent from my EVO using Bimmer App Last edited by Dmurry101; 10-27-2012 at 09:39 PM. |

You need to reset your service interval thru hidden menu in KOMBI

I also changed my rear brake pads & tried to reset the service interval thru the hidden menu but the red car warning light will not turn off & now when going to the I-Drive menu it says my rear pads are -16,000 over due. Just before I got the pads changed the I-Drive menu said -8000 over due.
When I did the reset in the hidden menu the last step highlighted reset & when I pushed the button it can up OK or something like that. I also reset the engine oil interval & it reset it to 24,000 kilometers. I scrolled through the I-Drive to see if there was any other service that was due but everything was green other then the rear breaks which is staying red along with the red car warning light. Any suggestion's on how to solve this problem would be appreciated. |

When you changed the pads, was their damage to the pad wear sensor?

You have 2 sensors on your car. 1 on the left (drivers side) front and one on the right rear. You can change these easily enough by jacking up the car on the jack pad and remove just the wheel that you are replacing the sensor on. No need to remove the caliper, pads, or rotors.

Yep. With bad sensor you'r not able to reset service interval. Just measure resistace to check the sensor-continuity test or temporary bridge the sensor to see, if you can reset interval

Update
Quote:
I noticed when scrolling through the service interval list that the front brake interval reads 43 tmls & I reset it a few months ago. Why would the front interval read 43 tmls & the rear interval read 31 tmls when I just reset the rear today but reset the front sensor months ago? |

CBS interval should be 32000 miles for rear and 25000 miles for front brake pads

While the rear is not so far off, it should be reading 32,000 not 31,000 since I changed it yesterday & have not driven the car? Last edited by dommm; 11-17-2012 at 07:39 AM. |

If You have diagnostic software, then You can correct it

I do have INPA software installed on a laptop but have not used it for anything yet. Is that the software that would be needed for this & would you be able to lead me through the process of correcting this problem? I would be most grateful.

Hi, I know You can use INPA to reset service interval(under Body-Instrument cluster), but I don't know if You can correct data with INPA-never tried. I always used DIS software. In DIS You go to: Diagnosis - Function Selection - Service Functions - Maintenance - CBS Correction, Vehicle Data and change the value
