1989 325ix Transmission Problem

Hi, I'm new here.

Bought a 1989 325ix 4 speed automatic back in 2010. Ran well for a couple years, until just recently the transmission up and died on me. At first it wouldn't go past 2nd gear despite the engine giving it enough juice, now it won't even go into 1st. I'm not sure what it could be that caused this, but it seems pretty expensive.

What should I do?

Replace the automatic transmission and eat the $1500+ in repairs.

Sell it off on Craigslist as a parts car for anything people would be willing to pay.

Or,

Switch the tranny from auto to manual and eat the money in repairs as well.

Does 325i tranny fit into the 325ix? I know cause the car is awd, it might be different/ need a different part or something?

They are not 1500+ in repairs, I don't know who told you that..you can get the trans for a few hundred.

You cannot use a rwd trans, needs to be ix specific.

if you have a shop change out the tranny with a good junkyard one, new torque converter and labor, then yes, youll be in the ballpark of 1500. as of having a place rebuild your tranny, it all comes down to whats wrong with the tranny, if its the pump, then youll be in the 400-600 range. if its a full rebuild, then somewhere around 800-1200 depending on the shop
