BMW DME Reflashes...

I have never seen anything like it...

In the year I've owned my car the DME has been reflashed/reprogramed TWICE. It feels like every time I check one of the BMW forums there is another reflash bulletin. This is getting annoying to say the least!

The 335d has been out in the US since late 2008 (longer in Europe) and BMW still doesn't have it right! It's bad enough BMW released the car with some obvious engineering design flaws that have required replacement of injectors, heads, EGR valves, mixers, DEF pumps etc, but now the computer needs to be reprogramed every 6 months! I mean come on BMW!!!!

Every time I took my truck in for anything during the first 100k miles it would get a reflash. So tons more than these cars have seen. So you can at least now be glad it is not a 6.0 Powerstroke that you have

It's not surprising after you realize that 1) this is the 1st diesel engine that BMW installed all the pollution controls they need to meet modern emissions, 2) they apparently decided to use this opportunity of a limited production run (3 years, about 20,000 cars/suvs) as a beta test of the technology.

BTW, I have my original injectors and head - I don't know why you say they've had problems (although a couple people seem to have had carbon build-up problems due probably EGR/programming problems.) Stuff happens; chill.

--- the 335I sub forum is down the hall-- my 2011 335D with approx 42K miles on the clock has been pretty reliable, only issues have been a couple recalls, reg maint and one bad wheel bearing. maybe Im just lucky

My 2011 with 30k + miles no problems, just one reflash and oil changes, I think the very first cars i.e. late 2008 early 2009 cars had issues, which is common occurrence I think.

Problems?

I've only been back to the dealer for oil change, and were done while I waited. The car has been flawless.

My car is one of the first and only issues I had turned out to be dealer caused.
