asking for help (again :( )
hi guys i have a 1999 316ti, which now has a cosy 1995 2.8 lump sat in it, to be honest im not all that great with horrible coloured spaghetti stuff, wiring... so basically ive had a go my self, probably a bad idea but too late now, i have the key, ecu, engine loom, and the half of the loom that goes too the fuse box under the bonnet, i thought i had wired it up correctly but i am not getting a spark, and only getting fuel as far as inside the fuel rail, but the spark plugs appear dry after trying to start the car, my intial thought was immobilizer, but i am unsure of its location? All turns over fine. other smaller issue i have noticed so far are when ignition is turned on, temp gauge goes straight to max temp, but as i have different compnents in the car i tried to use as little as possible of the 328 loom, and as you can see failed. Is the only solution to rejoin the 328 loom and use it all? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?? Cheers in advance people

First off, congrats on tackling an engine swap!
Secondly, did you use the DME & harness for the new engine or try to modify the old?

Haha cheers,if DME is the ECU the I have used the 2.8 DME, and the 2.8 loom is as it was up till the round plugs at the fuse box, one guy did tell me I would be able to just plug and play the main round plug, as the compact only uses one round plug. then just wire up the second round plug (with smaller amount of wires in) to power and control the choke, is this the case? My head is just full of the hundreds of possible problems, and like I say I'm not very good at wiring, my initial plan was to do the spanner work then send it to a mechanics but a friend has kindly offer to do it, but would like to hear some knowledgeable BMW peoples opinions... =D

well, most anyone who has done a swap like this will tell you it's a pain to do as it is not a true 'plug-n-play' operation.
you may also be able to find more ti specific information on the 318ti.org site, as i saw several swap threads. their site isn't as easy to navigate as this one, but it is possible. btw, any pics?? ![]() df
