2002 735i Front Lower Wishbone DIY
Hi guys, I am getting ready to tackle front lower wishbones on my car this weekend. I read alot about wishbone replacement on bmw but nothing on e65. Does anyone have a good write up with photos or did anyone done it recently?
I have no ramp so I have to rely on jack and jackstands. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Alem |

I recently replaced my thrust arms and found the ball joints were shot and the car still felt okay, so I'm thinking I should do these.. but I am not seeing a DIY or much info either..

Seriously. Anyone working on these cars needs to invest the $15 and get TIS.

Thanks! They are saying I need to adjust steering angle sensor? Just for changing a control arm? It's not like mine is blown out and out to lunch, I simply want to replace after seeing how bad the ball joints were on the thrust arms and showed no symptoms.. that's a safety issue.

Hi guys, since I've posted this question I've tried to do this myself. I had the car up on the axle stands only to realise I need the ramp in order to do this. Way too much hustle. I found Lithuanian mechanic in Leixlip who knows BMW's.
Work he done was as follows: Replaced the thermostat Replaced two oxygen sensors after cat Replaced two lower control arms. Total labour for all this was 160 EUR. Well worth it and very professional service. His garage is next to Lidl in Leixlip. Hope this helps. Alem |

May I ask why you needed the ramps? There shouldn't be any issue using jacks?

Hi,
It's because, in order to remove the bolts you need to take out plastic engine cover and brake fluid tank cover on one side. Otherwise the bolts have no room to come off. You can try on axle stands, I couldn't do it though. Alem |

Thanks Alem, may I ask what plastic engine cover and brake fluid tank? I haven't seen the brake fluid resivior on these cars yet.. does it have to come all the way out? I am not sure I understand why the ramps made a difference over a couple jacks?

Hi,
I have placed the car on the axle stands and tried to remove lower fromt control arm. In order to do so I needed a better access to the bottom of the car as the plastic cover at the bottom of the car was preventing the bolts to come out. I just had no room as the car wasn't high enough. At this stage I've decided to bring the car to the garage. After the mechanic has replaced this for me I asked how tough was it to change and he told me that a lot of plastic covers including fluid tanks cover needed to be removed in ordert for bolt to come out.
