2012 comfort access problem, please advise

I have a 2012 x5 5.0i, I have 8000km on it, I am experiencing problems with my comfort access, sometimes when I get into the car push the start button (stepping on the brakes)nothing happens, the car does not detect my key, even with the key in my hand, so I have to put the key fob in to start. Half of the times this would happen, its very annoying since I have the fob in my pocket and I sat down already then you push start and it doesn't start, now I have to lean up and get the fob out and put it in the hole to start.I tried putting new battery already the fob buttons always work and all the doors always work just the starting does not, Please help guys!!!!! thanks

Does this happen all the time or at a particular location? Also, were you able to unlock the door using comfort access?

My guess there is something wrong with the radio receiver inside if you can open the door but not start the engine.

I have taken to the dealer already twice, and they are not sure either so they ordered me new fob to try, it will arrive next week.

A new FOB make sense if this only happen with one of two keys you have. I guess BMW really have a bad quality control. I don't tolerate electronic failure because they are so easy to get it right. Low power RF signals are not exactly a rocket science. Its not like they make hundreds of millions of units like Apple or Samsung per year.

its happening to both keys and the dealer check the reception from the car and it was all good, its very frustrating when it doesn't work, very inconvenient, beats the purpose of having the comfort access.

read this:

http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/e7...t%20Access.pdf

and this:

http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/e7...System%203.pdf

The transmitters use one frequeny for access and a different freq for start...

and as you will read this is hugely more complex than 'the battery is low'... indeed I suspect the system has a rich error/code trapping function so that a good (knowledgeable) tech should be able to look at historical codes and failures to figure out what is not working.

Thanks, hopefully the next visit to the dealer will have it all figured out and fixed.

It happens to me all the time. It may be an antenna problem. The antenna is located in the A frame running along the windshield that is what the BMW factory tech told me when they ran a diagnostic.

Do you carry the key in the same pocket with a phone? That always causes it to fail for me.

I carried my key with my phone all the time. So far, it has not failed. If it fails, I say it is not functionally as intended.
