I fixed my key fob remote central locking

I had the usual problem that the remote central locking did not work from the key fob with my X5. I decided to carry out surgery to fix the problem. I took a small craft knife and carefully cut all around the key fob to seperate the two halves. I had a spare battery prepared and ready to install but on further inspection I found that one of the battery terminals had sheared from the small ciruit board inside the key fob. I got the electrical tester out and tested the voltage of the new cell at 3.3v I then tested the voltage of the cell in my key fob and this too read 3.3v. I decided to try and re-solder the sheared terminal back on to the circuit board. I found a small piece of wire to use as a bridge and soldered it in place. Hey presto the remote central locking now works absolutely fine from the key fob. I carefully superglued the two halves of the key fob back together and now it is as good as new.

Thanks for the update. Gotta add this fix to my mental roldex. It seems that this may be a symptom of the new style (diamond-shaped) keys that is plaguing many owners.
