1995 740il Bad acceleration
Hi, I recently acquired a 1995 740il 4.0L auto from a friend. The car starts, idles, runs and shifts fine. Can cruise in my neighborhood around 25mph fine but when I go to accelerate, WOT the car doesn't really move, kinda reminds me of the titantic. Big and slow. When I received the car it had a fuel pump issue so It would not stay running but I replaced that. I'm wondering if the fuel filter is clogged? Fuel injectors are clogged? Doubt it but cats could be clogged? I know about cars a decent bit but Bimmers drive me nuts. (im a VW guy
) Any help I would really appreciate it! |

you're not getting responses because your question is insulting to those who choose to drive E38s. No offense intended- I'm being straightforward.
Answering your question objectively is nearly impossible. Acceleration is subjective. You may be asking too much of a very heavy car, despite its near 300 ft/lbs of torque. That said, a hot rod trans am driver (Wr6 or whatever) was once shamed when he thought he would run off and leave me. Your symptom is too vague.

I did get a response thank you though for being forum police. No one said i was expecting spinning tires at wot in this car. I have a 400hp vw that does that fine. My question/help was 100% readable and answerable. Thats why war machine answered it way before you. No offense-intended

With that in mind, your problem is no doubt the result of reduced low pressure, retarded timing, lack of ignition /and / or weak spark, reduced combustion and / or compression, air / fuel mixture inefficiency, incorrect air density metering, intake air restriction, exhaust gas restriction... see my point? I hope your fuel filter does fix the issue, but if it's clogged enough to really hamper WOT flogging the 17 year old car like a backdoor rug-- likely there are other issues that are contributing and / or helping mask other problems related to reduced performance. What is the MPG like city / hwy?
