So its been awhile since I posted here and still no progress on my 2000 740i.
The engine is locked up. The interior and body are excellent as are all the electronics. Should I keep it and replace the engine, or try to get my $2000 back I paid for the car? 100k miles and even have an engine out of a 1998 740 that apparantly won't work in my car. I'm in the Orlando, Fl. area if someone is interested in buying the car. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Mike |

how do you know the engine is locked up? I had a few customers over the years think the same & it was only a frozen starter.

I removed the starter and put a socket on the crank nut. With a 3' breaker bar and a penetrating oil soaking in the cylinders, I was able to break the engine loose. Sounds like metal to metal contact in the lower block. Valves and timing assembly appear to be intact. Maybe a broken rod?
