Tpms is driving me nuts

Maybe BMW likes to give people a choice? I know several people who don't care for keyless entry/drive, or things like auto-dimming mirrors or moonroof (which BMW unfortunately keeps pushing as a part of the useful packages... I would gladly deselect moonroof if I could from ALL our cars). Personally I would prefer all car makers to follow Porsche and offer everything as an individual option

We know we cant enable this thru coding, people have tried, however the function does not appear.

So either

a) Theirs a running hardware change (either the wheel sensor, or the receiver)

b) The software was tweaked so that the code from the F-platform doesn't coincide with the E. (software variables are too great)

Possible SOLUTIONS:

IF THE SENSORS ARE THE ONLY HARDWARE PIECE LIMITING THE PSI AND/OR TEMP INFO

I was hoping that someone could replace the sensors with some the old (pre-mid 11 cycle change) sensors, extract the coding from those UN-updated vehicles, and try to use it on the post-cycle change vehicles.

The other thing, is try to replace the sensors with F-platform sensors and then try to adapt the software to show the new sensor data.

I had snow tires on rims with tpms installed and ran them on my early 2011 x5. Picked up a 2012 x5 a few weeks ago and installed the snow tires yesterday and the system will not recognize the sensors in the tires.

I remember reading somewhere that there was a changeover in the TPMS sensors sometime in late 2011. Not sure if this is completely true though.

Do we know if the EU spec E70s have the readout?

This same issue came up when I had my Audi. EU spec versions could have readouts, but the US version could never be coded to do the same thing

Then our prices would skyrocket like Porsche, which is ridiculous. Look at Lexus pricing. They can offer stuff like heated seats, Xenons, etc for thousands less than BMW and beat them on reliability, resale, etc.

Maybe it's just me but I expect something as expensive as an X5 to have heated seats, leather, bluetooth standard, but I guess BMW doesn't feel the same way

(This is also what bugs me about BMW owners who are too cheap to option up xenons, leather, GPS, but then go around and boast about how awesome their new BMW is)

Check your tire pressure. I bet you it is low.
Mine was on all four tires.

The 2013 diesel loaner I had today told me which tire was low.

I guess I am an idiot for making an assumption that it was a 13 because It had like 400 miles on it. I forgot the D are on a different year designation for some reason.

Just making sure I hadn't missed something. Only 400 miles huh, I wonder what the Mfg date was... interesting that a car in their loaner fleet wouldn't have gotten the software update even if it was an early 2011 build.

Probably the same reason you spend 80k on a x5 and you get the previous year map and as you drive out of the dealer, BMW sends you an email about the new maps. Haha. Rarely will a dealer update a new car. They assume it was all done at the factory

I am sure this is purely a legal issue. There has to be some rational that by stating the tire or pressure, BMW could face a lawsuit if something happens and the driver blamed it on a faulty TPMS. "I swear the idrive said left so I added air to the left tire but i still crashed doing 110 because of a right tire issue.". If it just said tire, I would have checked them all. I need 1million to make me go away"
