First drive in 1-2 inches of snow with xdrive. Handled great. Love my SAV.

Which tires do u have?

I have 18" Bridgestone dueler H/L run flat tire's.

1-2" is not "snow", more like a "light dusting" You can drive in such weather even with bald or summer tires, although I would not recommend it - very easy to make your car to fishtail or spin even with AWD/4WD. Try going into deeper snow next time... Though with ****ty Bridgestone all-season tires (we had these awful tires on our previous X5... Never again!) I would always keep the shovel nearby

Had the Dueler on my 18's and thought they may work for winter tires------ NOT ----- one good snow and on went a set of Blizzaks. The only way to go. 20's in the summer, 18's with Blizzaks in the winter.

They are the tire's that came with the car, once there done I'm going to see whats available and that may include a new set of oem wheels as well.

just so you are aware....... I drove my X5 through some 5" snow yesterday and was perfectly fine with stock dueler tires. About 30 min later I drove my mother-in-law's Toyota highlander through the same patch of snow with similar results.... Gasp! Hehe

Shows you the difference, tires make. I'm sure the BMW is better in the snow, but a Highlander with snows should be better than an X5 with all seasons

People that praise all seasons for true snow driving have never driven with a proper set of winter rubber and are frankly, clueless.

one inch of snow in the D.C. area is considered a blizzard and people freak out on the road - need to rush out and buy bread/milk/toilet paper. Huge number of SUVs here (many of the luxury variety) and no one knows how to drive them. Only safe vehicle here is a dump truck with a snow plow.

Keep in mind that early season snow tends to trick people into thinking that appropriate winter tires aren't needed. This time of year, roadbeds are warm enough that even summer tires cut through a few inches of snow and find traction. But it is a MUCH different reality once the roads are frozen and snow covered, and those summer (and to some extent all-season tires) lose pliability and become hockey pucks.

Not sure that was the op's point. Did he say the highlander had snow tires on it?

I did not read it that way. Rather, it looked (to me) like that he actually "implied" that the Highlander also had All Season tires on it (e.g. The BMW had stock Duelers on it and the Highlander also had stock...something on it...showing that not only could the BMW with All seasons make it but that the Highlander also was able to make it ...with (perhaps) all season but it also could have even had Summer tires on it). I think this guy just read it wrong.

I live in Alberta, Canada. Today I drove the X5 (with 18 inch rims and winter tires) on 5-6 inches of snow (on top of 2 inches of ice :-) ) with the DTC on. I absolutely loved how it handled the snow and icy conditions. I bought the X5 about a month ago and it came with Federal Himalaya winter tires. I have no reference for comparison but it is certainly a huge improvement over the all seasons that I had on my 07 X3.

Yeah, think they missed the 'tongue in cheek' humor that comes so natural to us northeastern folks
