What do 7 series owners do?

I'm 28 and a mechanical engineer.. I never finished college and I've been successful in my field for years now. I always wanted to be a day trader and I recently moved to Los Angeles so I'm asking my fellow 7 series owners.. What do you guys do? Since I am career shopping it'll give me some ideas..

I'm 26yrs old and I am a successful pharmaceutical salesman in my area and supply all the little guys. I have not gone a day to college either. I purchased my car in cash because I have no credit at all and I did not want the car in my name for good reasons.

I'd venture to say a majority of them don't worry about what other people do and I would imagine they tend to focus solely on themselves which is probably why they are in a position to own a 7 in the first place. Don't worry what other people do and do what makes you happy

Great insight.. Maybe if you would read my initial post you'd see I am currently IN a position to own a 7 series and I currently DO own a 7 series. My worry isn't what other people do, I am unhappy in my career and I am looking for something NEW that can afford me the same lifestyle.

i owned a lowriders and now i have a BMW 7 series. i think a lowrider cost more to own than 7 series.
I love my Job/Career whatever you want to call it. I dont think what we do is what decides what we drive.
to own a 7 one has to be in love with car. due to most issues and you willing to deal with them.
I make Charmin Toilet paper i afford my car cus i buy at end of someone else lease and around 50K-60K miles. for about $25K instead of $100K when new. plus i do all my maintenace. well 90% of it.

What if I don't know what I love? Maybe you've had some sort of interaction with being an electrician and you fell in love with it.. I don't know what I love I just know I hate engineering. Ive always wanted to be a day trader/stock broker but I don't think thats within my reach without a degree. So because I can't become a stock broker and I'm not going back to school just seeing what else is out there before I quit my current job.

30 years on Wall Street it is a field in decline.

Field in decline meaning we are in a bear market? Because I can't foresee the stock market ever ending. I'll take Wall St in a bearish market any day of the week over steel fabrication.

I'm in banking. Have been for a decade. Finished school a few years ago and honestly wish I hadn't. Unless I get in a position that'll either utilize my degree, or won't hire me without one, it (along with all my student loans) is worthless! This is my 3rd 7 series and honestly can't see myself with any other car.

no not the market, the business. bank and broker staffs are shrinking , regulators are crawling all over these firms and tech is drastically changing the business where automated programs can manage money better than people and daily volume is dominated by HFT firms that will eat your day trader lunch if you go that route.

Become a quant broker. This type of broker serves passive investors looking for low-cost execution and highly sophisticated, high-tech players. Whatever you want to do in this industry choose a niche area or a specific target market. Brokerage is indeed declining.

I think that's the age group for brand new buyers. Then younger people, like me, buy them second hand.

Is that common in USA? I got critisism from my friends here in Norway that I drive an old mans director car.. But it does not bother me..

My friends are mainly driving Audi A6 Quatros or 5 Series BMWs..And a few with Porsche SUVs.. I have a 5 series loaner now. Good car, but the Seven is sooo much more comfortable and is a much better car.

That means that young people in USA have better taste in cars than in Norway..

The best way to make a small fortune as a day trader is to start with a large fortune. Don't even consider that route, no matter how much smarter you think you might be than "the market". I have been in this industry for 23 years and everything is changing for the worse due to regulations and fee pressures. No way could you convince me to start new in this business today.

What would you do if money wasn't the objective?

If I had it to do over again, I would be a tradesman with good union benefits. Think plumber, carpenter, electrician. If you want to make enough money to feed your family and save some money for retirement and not have to worry about being outsourced.
