We didn't make the list, we have to try harder!

Recent stats from the Insurance Institute list the vehicles most likely to have drivers receive tickets (citations, from the police). BMW didn't make the list! What is this going to do to our reputation as the bad boys -and girls- in their sporty toys? We're toast.

Here are the vehicles, and the percentage of their drivers which have been ticketed. Not a Roundel in the lot!

Here's the full list from Insurance.com:
1. Subaru WRX – 33.6%
2. Pontiac GTO – 32.7%
3. Scion FR-S – 32.6%
4. Toyota Supra – 30.8%
5. Subaru Tribeca – 29.7%
6. Volkswagen Rabbit – 29.6%
7. Mercury Topaz – 28.8%
8. Scion tC – 28.8%
9. Toyota FJ Cruiser – 28.4%
10. Mazda Mazda2 – 28.1%
11. Hyundai Veloster – 28.1%
12. Volkswagen GTI – 28.1%
13. Suzuki Reno – 28.1%
14. Scion xA – 27.8%
15. Pontiac G8 – 27.7%
16. MINI Cooper S Countryman – 27.5%
17. Mitsubishi 3000 GT – 27.4%
18. Saturn Aura – 27.1%
19. Infiniti QX56/QX80 – 27.1%
20. Toyota Prius C – 27.0%

Make of it what you will.

I was surprised that the Mustang and Camaro weren't on there.

In the morning and early evening commutes, I watch the cars zooming past at 85+ mph, when even the 'slow lane' is travelling over 70 mph on posted 65 mph highway, and more often than not it is not a BMW.

The biggest pricks (Jeremy Clarkson term) I've seen blowing by me here on Long Island are quite often Audis. Usually black ones.

6. Volkswagen Rabbit – 29.6%

By Gum, I see where most of the list rings true, especially for vile Prius drivers with a mighty need to prove....something. Anything really, given what they drive, superior only to a 'Smart' Car.

But VW Rabbit????????

Didn't they stop calling 'em that about 30 years ago? There may be 3 still on public roads - evidently one of 'em got a ticket! Golf. They surely mean VW Golf. Ask 'em to read the memo fer cryin' out loud!

I can stereo-typically put a driver in most of those cars and most don't seem too far off base. The Subaru Tribeca caught me off guard.

Keep in mind that this table consists of the percentage of owners of each car who got tickets. When there are very few cars (such as #8, Mercury Topaz) and they are owned disproportionately by kids the results can be skewed.
The real reason we don't see Audis, Mercedes and BMWs is that there are so many of them made and they are owned by law abiding old people (like me). What surprises me is that there are no Ferraris on there. What doesn't surprise me is that there are no Porsches on the list. I mean, really, when was the last time you saw anyone in a Porsche driving at speed?
Of course the list is of ticketed cars. I suppose some of them could be parked too far from the curb, or in H spaces. I didn't read all the details.

Proves that those who can afford a BMW can obviously afford a top notch radar detector/jammer. Hence we are not on the list..

Variable left out of the equation - miles driven.

IIHS data finds the Porsche 911 Cabriolet is one of the very safest cars on the road, as far as injuries and fatalities. Size does matter in an accident, but Porsches tend not to be driven as far and hard as, say, a Toyota. Few serious accidents will occur to a Porsche parked in your garage.

I've ridden with you in your Porsche. I know what it means.

On the other hand, perhaps the lack of Roundels on the list is a testament to the gospel of BJ spreading. It's hard to get a speeding ticket doing the status roll in a Walmart parking lot.

Actually, it was the even uglier twin of the Ford Contour. The Topaz may have been the nail in Mercury's coffin.

Maybe because most of the BMW drivers are protected (by Radar Detector) ?

This merely means that M- ///Rated has escaped the 'statistical' logistics for which he is due according to fathomic projections of M3 accelerations and obvious over-speed calcualations that determine that he is guilty of SPEEDING.

I'm glad we are safe drivers. However, when given the opportunity and favorable traffic patterns, I do not shy away from pushing the lowly 328

DSX and some of the C2C crew definitely missed out on a great evening run during this year's event! While a group of 15 or so "hooligans" can hardly swing the afore-mentioned stats, we definitely did our best to explore the limits of our cars.

I saw this list too and teased some BMW hating friends about it. Yeah can totally see WRX and Scion tC on there.

I think the Subaru Tribeca tops the list because all of the idiot yahoos with WRXs that they get tickets in, also have Tribecas. That's the only thing I can think of.

BMW 3-series all the way down at #177, right in front of the Honda Pilot.
