E83 X3 Worn Camshaft Bearing Ledges

I have an '08 X3. Was having rough start and slightly rough idle...."Check Engine" light came on....

$6500 later - Worn bearing ledges....They replaced the header, solonoid valves, etc....

Seems like an outrageous repair, and an unusual part failure after only 80k (well maintained) miles?

I've read of similar issues with the E54 335 engine, but have seen nothing on the X3.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

What codes were you throwing before you decided to spend over $6k...

Out of curiosity what was the frequency of oil changes during the first 80k miles?

I am only asking for academic reasons. I have a hypothesis about the maintenance program and this sounds like a good data point.

Brian, for your purposes, my 05 has had the oil changes every 15k as well, runs great at 125k. I'm not planning on shorten the interval in the near future whatsoever, let's see how long it goes.

I would highly recommend you send your oil off to Blackstone for an analysis. I know for a fact that the recommend interval of 15k miles is ludicrous (unless you consider the lifetime of your motor 100k miles)

Already passed 100k long ago.
