going with 225 from a 235
On a '01 E39 540, with stock tires of 235/45/17 on a 17x8, switched to 18s with 18x8 fronts
will it be a problem to switch to narrower 225/40/18? its less than 4% difference so ABS shouldnt be affected.

Be careful with the load rating. Many tires in 225/40R18 do not carry the approx 1350lbs per tire that is the recommended minimum from BMW.

Perfect person to respond! I was looking at getting it from TireRack.
I was looking at Continental ContiProContact - 225/40/18. Serv. Desc: 92H Load Range: XL UTQG: 500 AA A  My rears are the same but with 265/35/18 thats why i wanted to get ^ Would this be ok?

Overall diameters are too far off and could cause issues with ABS and traction control. Stick with 235/40R18 or 245/40R18 when using with 265/35R18.
