New to BMW In need of help!
Hi, just bought a 2000 BMW 740IL for my dad 3 months ago and its time to change the oil. Its been amazing car so far. Had to rebuild the ABS module and bought a set of new front grilles but that was it. Got a couple of questions I need to clear up before the oil change. Im looking to change the oil, oil filter and check the 3 bolts on oil pump from what I read.
-How do I find out about the engine model/code so I can pick the right oil pan gasket -Mobile 1 Synthetic 5W30 was put to the car by last owner so should I continue using it or switch to something else? -Where do you guys find these parts at an affordable prices? I figure eBay but most of time they are bunch of knockoffs. -Whats the transmission type and code for the correct gasekt Thanks! Last edited by xyflz; 11-01-2012 at 12:12 PM. |

Goto Realoem.com. Enter in your information about your car That should give you all part numbers you need for anything on the car.
The transmission information should be on the transmission itself. Thats where i found mine... E38.org is a great site for tutorials on how to do certain things. I did this same thing on my 97 e38 and it was a piece of cake. There are a number of sites you can parts from . ECSTUning, BavarianAuto, Autohauz AZ... those are just a few. Be sure to check the production month on your car.. There is also a site you can enter in your vin and i believe it gives you all the pertinent information about the engine and tranny and all.. Unfortunately i cant recall the site, one of other members like Bluebee or Joyism might remember it... Good luck...

Pelican for parts. Check the hand book for oil grades.
