Xenon bulb fused to igniter?

I tried to replace my bulb this evening, only to find the igniter burnt together with the bulb. Awesome. Here's a pic. Anyone else seen this? Cause?

When you say "igniter" do you mean ballast?

It's called an igniter on the parts page, but maybe it is potato potahto...

Ah, I think d1s bulbs use the ballast and the d2s have an igniter. I'm kind of ig'nant with the cars so I could be wrong, but that's what it seems like when I look at the Google :-)
