Can the average Australian own a BMW?

I visited Australia, Sydney to be exact at the start of August.

I saw quite a few BMW's in the CBD (downtown for us yanks). However, I've seen that a new 320i can go for AU$60,000.

Could the average young and single middle/upper middle class Australian even afford to buy a new 320i/d ?

Yes. Check the average salary in Sydney and you will see.

We also have novated leases here which means many companies will lease employees cars out of their pretax salary. This makes leasing expensive cars affordable, and smart tax wise.
