Have you tried using the key in the passenger door yet? You should be able to pull the handle as your twisting the key and get into the car.

Clothes hanger, a medium to large size flat head screwdriver, Something to keep the gap open (hard rubber door stops or pieces of wood works), and some patience.
Police can also do it with a slim jim.
If your locked out the idea is to get the plunger on the drivers door to lift up.
With the car dead you should still be able to open the door using this method.
Here's how.

Take the clothes hanger and straighten it out.
Take the hooked part and close it to a semi circle or at least small enough to go around the plunger.
Use the screwdriver and try to get in between the top of the door and the trim of the rain ducts.
Use the screwdriver to make a gap and place whatever you're using to keep the gap open in that gap.
Then slide the hanger through the gap and fish for the plunger.
You can bend the hanger if need be to get to the plunger.

Once around the plunger pull the hanger up and pull the hanger.

Badda bing badda boom. the door is ajar.

I should work. The jumping the license plate bulb thing sounds like fun.
But I've not seen or heard of that. Please explain?

Lock will open without battery if you turn key to emergency unlock position.

That never worked for me, i can only turn the key maybe 45 degrees clockwise on my passenger and driver door, none counter clockwise unless it is locked.
Luckily i have a few slim jims and locksmithing kits lying around, so could get my door unlocked when it was accidentally shut when changing the battery.

HAHA here is where he got the light bulb trick, it is near the bottom of that link

Here's a simple fix from Neil on Vancouver Island:
My 90' 535i battery drained as I had been away for a while. There was no way the door would open with the key as specified, I guess this method needs a little power from the battery ?. I saw the previous posts about applying power through the licence plate bulb holder and also one about going in through the trunk so I opened the trunk with the key to have a look around. I noticed the trunk courtesy light and simply flicked it out of it's position with my fingernail, exposing the light fitting with two wires. I removed the lamp and measured the voltage across the terminals with a multimeter to check polarity and found the black/red stripe to be + ve. I simply attached my small trickle battery charger connections across the terminals with the lamp still removed and powered up the two lamp terminals (+ve on red black and -ve on the other. I also closed down the trunk lid so the circuit was not looking for any power, waited a few minutes and opened the door easily as the electrical system had picked up enough power. Within five minutes of opening the trunk I had solved the problem. Seemed like an easy solution to me.

OP I hope you get into your car.

Now reading DIY on feeding juice through the light socket.
I guess it's worth a shot. One question though. If the car battery is under the rear bench...

How do you get to it?!?

Makes no difference where the battery is.

When the car has a charged battery they boot interior light will be on. When it's dead you can put current backwards through this and power up the whole car

Oh... see that. Even I learned something new.

If anyone knows where that DIY is located add it to one of the DIY stickies.
