2nd ED Trip...

Hello Everyone,

I'm doing my second ED trip coming up in Dec. I'm going with my buddy this time who will also be picking up a car. We are dropping off his car on the day of pickup and driving one car for the trip. Below is an itinerary, looking to see if we are cramming too much into this short trip:

12/6 arrive in Munich.
12/7 pickup, drive to Salzburg then onto Vienna.
12/8 Sightsee in Vienna.
12/9 Vienna to Budapest.
12/10 Sightsee in Budapest.
12/11 Budapest to Munich.
12/12 Dachau and Munich, drop off.
12/13 Come home.

It is doable. But I would want to spend more time than you have allotted. It will give you a glimpse of Vienna and Budapest. I have not been to Budapest (it's on my short list for next year's ED) but Vienna has more to offer than one day of sightseeing will allow. Depending on the time of your car pickup it will be difficult to see much of Salzburg and still get to Vienna before dark. In December the days will be really short. You will also have to give some thought about driving conditions and the tires that will be included with your car.

You should consider dropping off your car in Vienna or drop out Budapest.
Seeing a city like Vienna for a day doesn't do it justice. Also just passing into Salzburg doesn't really count as "seeing it".

Besides, that last stretch of Budapest to Munich is probably around 450 mile journey.... Given the possibility of poor weather, I wouldn't do it.

Getting winter tires. Therefore have to drop off back in Munich. Umm, might have to drop Budapest.

If you can resolve the winter tire problem, then I would modify your trip to drop off in Vienna, and fly home from Budapest (If you're doing Lufthansa using BMW desk, flying home from Budapest is same as return from Munich.) Not that Vienna drop off is M-F only
