Inside Car Trunk Button and Key Wont Open Trunk

I was wondering have anyone experienced this? When I press the interior trunk release or truck button on the key, I hear the motor of the trunk try to open and I visually see the trunk open about 1/4 of an inch then it close. Is there anything I can check myself before bringing it to the dealer and being over charged for something simple? Thanks

Having same problem here...only its not the struts. Boot lid tries to open but catches (on latch?) and gets stuck - eventually stopping. can manually unlock with key, but not with button on dash or remote. very frustrating }-|

Putting the paddles to this thread to try and get more info. I was told by a BMW shop (Indy), that this characteristic is classic of blown or failing modules in the trunk (HDK module and another I'm not sure of). They charge 1G to repair. If that's the case, replacing struts and so on won't help me. The new modules also have to be programmed to the car.

For the record.....the symptom I refer to, is where the trunk releases and just begins to go up (about an inch), and then sucks back down to lock. If you give it a little nudge upon release though, it will do it's full cycle and open completely AND stay open.

If anyone can shed light on this new info.....please advise. I want this FIXED!! :-)
