Just bought a 2004 530i

Hi all

I just bought a 2004 BMW 530i. The dealer told me it had bluetooth but I'm having no luck pairing my phone.

After a bunch of research I have learned that BMW was not able to make bluetooth active until 09/2004. Mine was produced in 08/2004.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this means that it is wired for bluetooth but it must be activated. So, all I need to do is get my software updated and get it coded for the bluetooth to work, right?

Depending on the build date, you may need a new TCU also. Recently, someone posted a nice DIY on how to replace the TCU so just search this forum for it.

Earlier E60's are certainly BT capable, but you still may need to spend a few $100 to get it working. Check out how the listing was worded with regards to BT functionality and you may be able to persuade the seller to assist you with the cost at the very least.

Mine was built in 08/2004. From my research I think that means I don't need a new TCU.

Here is a bulletin that may help clear it up for you. Look at item #4. When I had my 2004 525i, built 3/2004, the dealer turned on the bluetooth at no charge. Good luck.
