Hey guys I could use some information from any of you that have been threw this in the past. Long story short my 650 with 400 miles slid into a tree the other night in the rain. At first look the insurance guy told me that they were looking at about 35k worth of damage. Now the car is 3 weeks old and I got a pretty insane deal on it to the point that if they totaled the car I would actually have to back to a 550 instead. So I am hoping that they choose to fix it. That being said, any of you guys ever have to do major work on your bmw? Just looking for any advice or things you might have gone threw. I have never been in an accident before so this entire experience is going to be new to me. So thank you in advance to anyone who can contribute to this thread.

Keep perspective; you're OK and it's just a car. I have had 2 major accidents in my life (hopefully, no more)...one, being rear-ended at a stop light; the other, being hit by a drunk driver. I walked away from both. The car that was rear-ended was new and the one hit by the drunk driver was declared a total loss by insurance. I learned several lessons from those experiences, like the importance of seat belts, driving defensively, and having a good insurance company behind you. However, the most important lesson learned, in addition to the value of German engineering (both cars were Audis), was that nothing is more important than my health and safety...a car can be replaced.

Thanks for the comments guys. Nobody got hurt and walked away without a scratch and a car is a car. I hope it comes back to me but if it doesn't that's OK too. Do to the fact that its 100k+ car and the fact that its still only days old the insurance agent said they are leaning towards fixing it at this point. I was just wondering if after a bad accident and having car fixed to the tune of 35k (obviously not out of pocket) Am I going to be left with a car that looks like a 650 but drives like crap or can these places really do the work necessary to fix the car and make it right. Obviously I am more concerned about the mechanical work then the body work that I have no doubt will come out fine. Anyway thanks for the responses and would appreciate any further insight.

$35k is a lot of work to be done on any car, much less a brand new 650. With several models of my own, I've been greeted with the "wow, haven't seen one of these before" looks at the body shops... not the most reassuring thing to think you are the guinea pig and this is the first of that type of car they've worked with. If you opt for a repair, use the best shop around. If I were you I would ditch the car asap, regardless of what deal you got on it... it'll be difficult to unload it later on when Carfax shows a serious accident and insurance claim and you have to disclose it to the seller. Not to mention if problems surface later on down the road it'll be hard to prove they were from the accident and convince your insurance company to shell out more. Body shops can work wonders on these cars, but it will never quite be "the same" again. Fit and finish is hard to replicate outside the factory

Very good advice wine country and I thank you for it. Insurance totaled car this am, and I am working now with BMW to track down another one. Its a tough loss but thankfully its only the car that was lost and nothing else.

Well to put a end to this thread I found the exact same car EXCEPT it's titanium silver instead of carbon black. I took the car because it was one of the last 2013 available optioned the way I wanted it. I'm a little bummed about the color as I always have had darker colors, but I am also very excited to get a 650 back. Have any of you guys seen this car in silver??? Any impressions???? I haven't seen it in person but on the website my only complaint is that it looks a little dull. Any feedback would be great.

I'm a fan of silvers and grays more than anything else. We had a Space Gray X5 and loved it. Our current Lexus RX F-Sport is "Nebula Gray," a color slightly darker than Space Gray, and I'm a big fan of it, too. Color is all personal preference, though, of course.
