X5 PDC error

Two weeks ago I purchased a 2009 X5 with 36K miles on it. Great vehicle for me and my business. I had a trailer hitch installed on it today. When I picked up my vehicle I had a PDC error message with no help other than to go to the dealer.

The hitch installer checked the sensors, but reported they were all plugged in. My question is this, "Can sensors be damaged by unplugging them and then plugging them back in? And, what is the best way to troubleshoot this problem? I think I either have a bad sensor, or when they hooked up a trailer wire they got on to sensor wire by mistake, although the trailer lights work perfectly.

You need a software update with a hitch install. I had mine installed factory at purchase and the software update was part of it. Disabling PDC and rear camera functionality changes.
