From a Sedan to a SAV
I've been in the E39 thread for a while now and it has been a tremendous help troubleshooting/repairing our 528i.
At 187k miles (I forgot to add the three months without an ABS module thus the edit) we decided it was time to move on since we commute a total of 150 miles per day....comfort, reliability, and fuel mileage are important to us (and our butts). We are looking at several 2011 X5 35d's. The one we were planning on buying Friday evening sold before we got back from the road test so we missed that one but two more showed up not far from us and we'll look at them later this week. We hope to be seated in one before Friday. Last edited by Fleetman; 12-10-2012 at 01:39 PM. |

I'd probably look at ordering a new one, shouldn't be that much more then a 2011 with all the incentives happening right now.

For $10k more I don't mind looking at a 2011.
We originally set out to buy a new one but the price was a turn off and the certified pre-owned warranty is actually a little better than new. |

10k more sounds like a lot, you must be getting a steal on the 2011s. The $4500 eco credit and the $750 loyalty credit have been taking the prices pretty darn low on the new ones. Plus there's the test drive app credit, deals are going 5k+ below invoice from what people have been posting.

Yep, I hear you. It is a good price we're getting and has what we were looking for.
I'm not much for purchasing new cars.....as much as I like them new, I do not have the time to run the vehicle (or have them do it) back and forth to work out the bugs....not that I expect that many but things do happen. I feel pretty confident that a vehicle with x number of miles will have the minor warranty glitches fixed (if any). In the past most of the vehicles I purchased were new but as age sets in I've grown fond of used things....my 2nd wife - a used model since she was married before, my 528i - a used model that was sorely abused but came back with a little TLC, our new location - a used house but a brand new garage/shop (and 100 acres to look at every day). I was truly amazed at how nice the 35d handled and the power.....nice!!! I had never looked at BMW's until the 528 that was purchased as a beater for our commute. It makes a 1:15 - 1:45 drive seem to go a lot faster. Yep, I'm hooked! |
